Adding a GNS Popup to Any Aircraft* In 3 Easy Steps
*Any aircraft with an electrical system, so the Piper Cub doesn't count!
Step 1 - Find The Proper PANEL.CFG File
This will be located in an aircraft specific folder inside your simulator's
SimObjects \ Airplanes
folder. Open this file with Notepad or any plain text editor.
Step 2 - Edit the [Window Titles] Section
In the PANEL.CFG file you found in Step 1, locate the [Window Titles] section (usually at the top of the file).
You can either change the title of an existing window that you don't want anymore, or add a completely new window title.
You can name the window as just about anything, but use only letters and numbers, don't use punctuation or any non-text characters.
Example:
[Window Titles]
Window00=Main Panel
Window01=Radio Stack Window02=GNS Panel // <---
To change an existing window, name it as you wish, and remember the Window## number
Window03=IFR Panel
Window04=Landing View
Window05=Mini Panel Window##=My New Window // <---
or, add a new Window, just type it as shown here, changing ## to the next available number.
Step 3 - Paste This Section into your PANEL.CFG
In the same PANEL.CFG file, either find the [Window ##] section you are re-purposing, or find an open section where you can
paste the section shown below.
Whatever window ## you used above in the [Window Titles] section for your
GNS window, use the same ## in the example below. Make sure you don't accidentally create two [Window##] sections with the same number.
Example:
[Window##]
// <---
Make sure you use the same ## number here that you used in the [Window Titles] section
Background_color=0,0,0
size_mm=456,520
position=8
visible=0
ident=GPS_PANEL
window_size= 0.500, 1.000
window_pos= 0.000, 0.000
On some computers, you may try to save your changes to the PANEL.CFG, only to find that Windows won't let you save it to the
original location. It then forces you to save the file to a different folder. If this happens to you, it's because Windows security settings
don't want to let you save the edited file. So to get around this, save the file somewhere else, like the Desktop, then cut & paste it
from the desktop back to the folder where it belongs.
